Celebrities Who Don’t Want to Get Married

Someone once said that marriage is simply a way to get the Government involved in your relationship so that your partner can’t escape. Well, these celebrities certainly seem to have taken that literally.

Whether because of a sense of independence, the horrible memories of their parents’ marriage, or simply a lack of time (you can never be too famous, after all!), these celebs have denied themselves the sweet bliss of married life.

Some of them have lived with their partners for years and they even have children, but they avoided getting themselves bound up legally or contractually. Others have simply not managed to settle down with a single person.

This has not, however, prevented them from entering numerous romantic relationships. Many of them even present heartwarming stories of long-lasting love. So here are the fifteen celebrities who just can’t be tied down.

1. Oprah Winfrey

The famous talk show host, who has been a source of inspiration for countless people, has never actually been married, despite being in a steady relationship with Stedman Graham for nearly 30 years.

Even though they got engaged to be married in November 1992, the actual event never happened.

A victim of child sexual abuse and childhood pregnancy who would eventually go on to help others deal with similar trauma, Winfrey has been known to have a string of affairs in the past, including dating late Roger Ebert in the 80’s (a bittersweet high-school romance which ended, tellingly, on Valentine’s Day) and affairs with married men.

Oprah’s partner Graham is a business mogul as well as a writer of self-help books. Oprah has made no secret of their love for each other, from sharing dinner pictures on Twitter to wearing shirts saying “Love”.

Speaking about marriage, they say they have chosen a “spiritual union” instead.
